06 January 2009
PANAMA CITY, Panama – The actions of a group of police officers from Panama which resulted in the location, arrest and deportation of a Colombian fugitive less than 24 hours after a wanted alert was issued via INTERPOL have today been recognized by the world’s largest police organization.
In a ceremony at the National Police Headquarters in Panama City, INTERPOL Secretary General, Ronald K. Noble, presented certificates to the officers involved in the arrest of David Murcia Guzmán in November 2008 who is accused of defrauding thousands of investors through pyramid schemes.
“This case was a model of transnational police co-operation and what can be achieved through co-ordination between officers on the street, INTERPOL National Central Bureaus and the General Secretariat headquarters in France,” said Secretary General Noble. “I am proud to meet these officers and recognize their efforts on behalf of the international policing community.”
INTERPOL is the world’s largest international police organization, with 187 member countries. It exists to help create a safer world by supporting law enforcement agencies worldwide to combat crime.
